PART ONE: Submit a portfolio of written work to the programme coordinator Phillippa Yaa de Villiers: This must be accompanied by a covering letter that details your previous degrees and/or your writing and publishing history, your reading interests and your learning goals with regards to the course.

The portfolio should demonstrate a high degree of writing competency, a commitment to wide and varied reading and an interest in using language creatively.

Deadlines for Submission The portfolio must be received by 15 September.

ac.za/applications PART THREE: One you have been accepted by the Creative Writing department, and applied to the University ONLINE by 15 September, you will need to register at the start of the academic year (January) for the degree and the courses you wish to do.

Portfolio All applicants should submit a portfolio of creative work to the Honours programme convenor Phillippa Yaa de Villiers: This should comprise twenty pages (1.5 spacing, 12 pt Times New Roman) of any combination of the following: • Part of an unpublished creative prose manuscript (fiction or non-fiction).• A selection of short stories.• A selection of creative non-fiction essays.• A selection of poems.★ ★ NOTE: Students wishing to take the poetry course MUST submit at least twelve poems as well as eight or more pages of prose.Students who will not be doing the poetry course may submit poetry in their portfolio, but at least fifteen pages of the portfolio must be prose.IN ADDITION The portfolio should be accompanied by a covering letter explaining your reasons for applying to this programme, the extent of your own reading of creative work, and what you hope to achieve in this course.This appears to be a defect in the browser which should be addressed soon.The simplest approach to avoid this problem is to continue to use the Facebook app but not use the in-app browser.It facilitates theoretical reflection, and introduces the procedures and practices relating to the writing and analysis of creative work.Students will be expected to analyse short fiction and non- fiction, reflect on representational and narrative practices and their effects, engage in critical and literary debates, write short fiction and non-fiction works, and reflect on and critique their own creative projects.This should be an essay on a topic of your choosing.It should demonstrate wide reading in relation to the topic and a good grasp of the essay form.The deadline for the online application is 15 September.NOTE: All South African and international postgraduate applicants to the University are required to pay an application fee of R200.
